As I write this, McMaster is hosting the annual workshop for instruction for library use, or more simply, wilu. Now, it’s not really a workshop, and it’s not always about instruction, but it is about librarianship and moving instructional roles forward. I was not on the organizational committee (who’ve done a great job, btw), but wanted to be a part of wilu, so I volunteered. I was given the role of official photographer of the ‘conference’ (and happily accepted). Conferences don’t typically have an overabundance of photo worthy happenings, but it’s been a ton of fun to give it the ol’ college try. Results below.

I really like some of the details in this picture. You can see the accumulation of small flies between the laminated sign and the glass. Of course, you can see me taking the picture, but what dominates the image is the lush greenery in the background, reflecting in the door window.

Update: I realized some context would be helpful here. Kuranda is a small tourist town up in the rainforested area near Cairns, Australia. When we were there we had spare time to wander around the town, so I had to check out the library. It was closed. (I have a few more photos from Cairns online.)

These guys are Lucy Maud Montgomery’s ceramic dogs, which are housed in the University of Guelph archives. The description on the box indicates that they were purchased in England in 1911 by LMM. Forever keeping a watchful eye on the archives.

As a co-op student in the University of Guelph archives, I spent much of my time processing the Macklin L. Hancock collection. Feeling artistic, I made custom labels for the archival boxes.
